ACRONYM

L.U.C.K.
People often express that others seem to have all the luck in the world.

Luck has really nothing to do with experiencing success. Many of you know that we all make our own luck in life and that we’re totally responsible for our outcomes.

However, did you know that L.U.C.K. is an acronym for Labour Under Controlled Knowledge, in other words its all about taking action upon whatever is happening in your life, knowing and being totally aware of what’s going on at all times, so you can make an informed judgement about your next course of action.

First and foremost our thoughts and prayers continue to be with those affected by the earthquake disaster in Haiti during January.

It’s Valentine’s Day on the 14th of this month and lovers around the world will be celebrating. I’m sure credit is due to many a Relationship Coach who have coached clients in the importance of first having a loving and respectful relationship with themselves before embarking on another stratum of relationships. Then again, what about your connection with yourself, how high on your agenda is your self-respect and love element?

Wherever you may be in the world and whether you celebrate St Valentine’s day or not do remember to celebrate the joy of having the privilege of having a choice to Live your Life by your Design. Within this months edition you can read about the acronym LUCK and its translation.

In this months newsletter I’ve included two articles on the importance of formal coach training and membership to a professional body for your reference. Both of these components of our coaching profession are important and I would encourage you to both keep up your CPD, continual professional development and consider raising your level of outside recognition as a professional coach. I say this as in these days of uncertain financial times being aware of how we as coaches can give more value to our clients is indeed an expression of respect.

As part of our commitment to you we’ve organised a full schedule of IIC webinars, do have a look and reserve your place at our next educational event. Success Strategies

One thing that coaches, therapists, NLP practitioners and all people who desire and have already attained success have in common is that they are passionately focused and more determined to succeed than the majority of the citizens of the world.

I’m more than a 100% fan of striving for added personal value through personal development in order to feel better, to perform better, having abundance and prosperity. I also enjoy being a true asset to my community as a member of the human race and helping others achieve more.

If lasting success is part of your remit then you’ll need a strategy for long term victory. In a couple of words that would be focus and self-discipline.

Are you aware of your focus, do you know what your success looks like, will you recognise success when it comes and bites you on your nose?

The following seven success strategies will I’m sure help you on your journey along the road to permanent success.

  1. Focus. What are you currently focusing on? You are probably aware that you are the sum total of all of your experiences and are the person you are today because of them. So take your time and seriously think about what your success is, as success is different for different people. It’s a major part of achieving success when you can define it for what it means to you.

  2. Life Purpose. Have you got yours, do you know why you get out of bed in the morning?

On a private note I discovered many years ago that my life had become fully meaningful and driven by constantly analysing who I am and why I do what I do. You’ll benefit too when you make an effort to know what makes your heart sing.

  3. You know your success is out there and waiting for you, the next stage of these seven success principles is as you continue to turn your life around is to live up to your decision to step up to your next level and then go beyond. Self-discipline reigns supreme at all times.

It wont always be easy, but hey isn’t it great when whatever you’ve planned to do turns out well and as you’re constantly changing the goal posts to fit your daily circumstances life will be good and the outcome just perfect.

  4. Your fast track to freedom is within you. All you have to do is bring it out. You can do that by taking a few moments everyday to meditate in a state of gratitude for what you do have and appreciate the wealth, abundance and your skills for creating more.

  5. If you haven’t already got a hero/heroine in mind then get one. Every successful person has someone they admire. Fill your mind with success stories of those individuals whom you look up to. It’s necessary to become a copy cat.

  6. Get yourself a coach to work with you on your personal development, again make sure your coach is experienced in what you are striving for. They may not necessarily have the exact outcome you want for yourself but they do have the skills, tools and techniques to assist you with your personal development.

  7. Deploy a daily method of operation to accomplish your daily goals and the actions thereof.

Explore the seven success strategies above, I know they work as I utilise them myself and you’ll be amazed how quickly your success levels will rise. Enjoy.

Why Is Formal Coach Training Important?

The IIC recently commissioned a study throughout our organisation to better understand professional Coaching and the Coaches who make it happen. Part of this included investigating the roll and importance of formal training in the lives of Coaches.

We strongly believe in formal training, and from the results of the study, so do you! We have gathered the general trends from the open response answers on the matter, and present them to you below.

Strong overall support for formal training is demonstrated by this chart, and the specific benefits and applications of formal training based on your answers are discussed in the following paragraphs. Thank you to our respondents, without your thoughtful answers we couldn’t have compiled such a detailed and comprehensive description of the roll of formal training in professional Coaching.

In General, How Important Is Formal Training For Coaches?

You need to be contected to the Internet to view this chart

Formal training is important because you’re working with people’s lives. It is important to be properly trained and aware of all of the nuances involved in order protect the Coach and the client.

It is essential for formal training within professional Coaching on multiple levels. It provides a framework to learn Coaching methods; it teaches Coaches the ethics and professionalism required for professional Coaching; and it inspires credibility and trust in the professional Coaching industry.

A Framework For Learning
Formal training provides a framework for Coaches to learn and understand the principles of Coaching. These principles create the foundation for Coaching methods, and understanding them is the first step to becoming a great Coach. Once a Coach understands the principles and the various methods of Coaching, formal training allows the Coach to practice the techniques in a safe environment. This allows Coaches to practice and critique their abilities with the help of experienced Coaches before moving into the real world.

A safe environment is also the best place to create and test new ideas. By working with other professional Coaches in a controlled environment, formal training institutions are the ideal place to foster new ideas and to refine existing practices. This refinement and education not only lead to development in the professional Coaching world, but also foster personal growth in the Coaches themselves.

Ethics and Professionalism
Professional Coaching involves a complex set of ethics and professionalism, based on the boundaries between Coaches and clients, and the roll of Coaching versus counselling or consulting. It is important for Coaches to have direct experience with this, and a full understanding of the situation, this is achieved with formal training.

Formal training is the perfect place for Coaches to learn about the ethics and professionalism required of professional Coaches. Formal training provides experienced Coaches to speak directly on the subject, and an environment where Coaches can question, discuss, and understand the ethics and professionalism necessary for professional Coaching. Additionally, formal training includes a support network for dealing with difficult situations.

Building Trust and Credibility
Formal training inspires trust in the professional Coaching world, and generates credibility for Coaches. There are a large variety of Coaches – this is part of what makes the Coaching world great, however this variety of Coaches also makes establishing credibility even more important. For a client to truly benefit from the Coaching experience, and to grow into their strengths, it is necessary for there to be trust in the Coach – client relationship. Establishing this trust is essential.

Formal training also opens the door for another way to inspire trust in professional Coaching – a Standard of Ethics & Practices. By relying on veritable training institutions and Coach accountability, instilling a Standard of Ethics & Practices across Coaching would be possible. Accreditation, credentials and a unified front of ethical conduct will demonstrate the probity of professional Coaching to an unsure public.

Thank You, from The IIC.

Once again, thank you to our respondents. Your input and careful answers allowed us to create a detailed and comprehensive outline of formal training, and the importance of formal training for professional Coaching.

Your Questions Answered
Apply to our editor to join our panel of experts who will raise their profile while increasing their chances of being hired by responding to Members questions on a monthly basis.

Submit your questions to the IICs panel of experts by sending your questions to the editor.

Why Is Membership Important?

Being part of a professional association for Coaches has many advantages. These range from the concrete – receiving important information through monthly newsletters, to the abstract – helping to maintain a Standard of Ethics & Practices across Coaching. All of these benefits have a direct and positive impact on your Coaching, and combine to positively impact Coaching as an industry.

We recently commissioned a study throughout our organisation to better understand professional Coaching and the Coaches who make it happen. In addition to getting some great ideas on how to improve The IIC, we were reminded about what we do well. Reading about the direct effects of Membership on the lives of Coaches is inspiring, and it encourages us to keep working hard to promote excellence in professional Coaching!

After analysing the results of the study, here is what we found to be the most important benefits of Membership:

Stay Informed
We distribute monthly Newsletters, and continuously post new information on our revised blog. Additionally, we host Webinars and present insightful and creative speakers. Starting this year, we have begun to collect Member publications – including books, article and essays – to help distribute and share information.

Be Connected
Being part of a professional network provides the best access to other Coaches. This creates a framework for collaboration and networking. Just like the brain creates ideas through the connection of neurons, professional Coaching grows and evolves through the connection of Coaches.

Being connected to other Coaches also provides the best network for personal support. Having access to other Coaches that can provide insight or advice is helpful for challenging times. Providing support for other Coaches is a very rewarding process.

Show Support
Creating and maintaining a Standard of Ethics & Practices across Coaching is one of the main goals of The IIC. This is not something we can do alone, but something that requires collaboration. Based on our results, this is something that is as important to you as it is to us.

We need to push forward with a unified front of Coaches, and this is what we are doing. You have the experience, you have the hours of Coaching – we are trying to spread this example throughout the Coaching industry. Based on your help we have tasted success, and there is more to come.

Get Recognised
In addition to helping the professional Coaching industry, Membership helps your Coaching practice and your business. Being affiliated with a commendable organization shows clients that a) you are up to date on Coaching methods, and b) you are serious about the ethics and professionalism of Coaching. This means that they can trust you, and trust your Coaching. This is essential for the personal growth of the client.

Thank You, from The IIC.

Thank you again to our respondents. Staying connected with you, and keeping a finger on the pulse of the professional Coaching world is the best way for us to promote excellence in professional Coaching!

The ICR

The International Coaching Register is for any individual who trades as a Coach, who help individuals and/or organisations for example, establish a work life balance, manage stress levels and build communication skills amongst many other specialist areas.

Everyone who has qualified as a Coach with a recognised Coach training company should now take the opportunity to register. This will dramatically cut down on any misrepresentation that goes on within the industry. Many people have websites and call themselves a
Coach but have no actual qualifications. The register will stop these people and raise the profile of genuine Coaching and how it can transform people’s lives.

President of the IIC Gerard O’Donovan said “the register has been administered by the IIC for the benefit of the world of Coaching and Coaching clients. It is also a great way for Coaches to get business as members of the public can search for registered Coaches in their area. It brings Coaching transparency at last.”
